The Ooknakane Friendship Centre and the South Okanagan Similmakeen Metis Association are proud to announce the highly anticipated Red Dress Day event, taking place on Friday, May 5th, from noon to 1 pm. (please gather at 11:30am) This poignant gathering will provide an opportunity for the community to come together, honor the lives of missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls, and raise awareness about the pressing need to address this ongoing tragedy.
Red Dress Day holds deep meaning as we remember the vibrant lives lost and recommit ourselves to eradicating violence against Indigenous women and girls. We invite everyone to stand in solidarity by wearing red or regalia, symbolizing our shared dedication to ending violence and fostering a safe and inclusive society for all. Your presence and participation will send a powerful message that we will not tolerate the perpetuation of this devastating cycle.
On the day of the event, participants are encouraged to wear red or regalia to join us in creating a powerful and united presence. We also invite those who possess a hand drum to bring it along, as we drum together in harmony, infusing our steps with strength and solidarity.
By attending the Red Dress Day event, you actively contribute to raising awareness, fostering understanding, and supporting initiatives aimed at addressing the systemic issues surrounding violence against Indigenous women and girls. Your presence is not only a statement of solidarity but also a call to action, urging our community to stand together and work towards a future where every individual feels safe, valued, and respected.
