Infectious Control Protocol: Ooknakane Friendship Centre is cancelling all events, gatherings and programs for the safety of our clients, staff, elders and community.
Dear Members, Board, Service recipients, Partners and Public
Infectious Control Protocol: Corona virus (COVID-19)
Due to COVID-19 (corona virus) Ooknakane Friendship Centre is cancelling all events, gatherings, and programs for the safety of our clients, staff, elders and community. All future events and gatherings will be cancelled until further news from health authorities.
We have been paying close attention to the recent global outbreak of Corona virus (COVID-19). Although the Public Health Agency of Canada has assessed the public health risk as low for Canada, we are taking precautions at our Centre.
Unfortunately, those with Corona virus (COVID-19) may have little to no symptoms. You may not know you have a corona virus infection because symptoms are similar to a cold or flu, and they may take up to 14 days to appear after exposure. The Public Health Agency of Canada says that symptoms have included: fever, cough, difficulty breathing, pneumonia in both lungs.
We are asking all community members to watch for signs of illness in themselves and any children in the home and, if sick, to stay home or keep children at home. Attached to this letter is an official pamphlet from the government of Canada with information about Corona virus (COVID-19)-it includes advice to help reduce risk of infection or spread the infection to others.
How you can help at home:
- Please practice, and teach any children in your home, good cough and hand hygiene etiquette. This includes covering coughs and sneezes with tissues, coughing and sneezing into the inside of the elbow, and discarding used tissues. Hands should be washed frequently with soap and water, and hand-washing should last for at least 20 seconds. Be sure to set a good example by doing this yourself. If hands are not visibly soiled, hand sanitizers containing at lest 60 percent alcohol are also effective.
- If there is a child in the home that is experiencing flu or cold-like symptoms, stay home from work, school and avoid contact with others. Please advise others that you may have been exposed to the virus.
- If symptoms worsen or cause concern, contact your doctor’s office by telephone for advice before arriving there in person.
